Therapy Training

What is a Therapy Dog? A Therapy Dog is a dog with an outstanding temperament. A Therapy Dog tolerates other animals. A Therapy Dog wants to visit with people. A Therapy Dog loves children. A Therapy Dog gets along with other dogs. What are the requirements for a therapy dog? To belong to Therapy Dogs International (TDI®) all dogs must be tested and evaluated by a Certified TDI Evaluator. A dog must be a minimum of one (1) year of age and have a sound temperament. Each dog must pass a temperament evaluation for suitability to become a Therapy Dog, which includes the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC). The test will also include the evaluation of the dog's behavior around people with the use of some type of service equipment (wheelchairs, crutches, etc.). [Credit-Therapy Dogs International (TDI®)]

Therapy Dogs visit a large variety of facilities and locations.

  • Assisted Living
  • DSR (Disaster Stress Relief)
  • Home Visits
  • Hospice
  • Hospitals (Children's)
  • Hospitals (General)
  • Libraries
  • Nursing Homes
  • Schools
  • Shelters

A.K.C. Canine Good Citizen Program

Many dog owners complete CGC training and testing as a prerequisite to therapy dog certification. While the AKC does not certify therapy dogs, we are very proud that so many CGC dogs and their owners volunteer their time to improve the lives of other people. There are national therapy dog groups (and in some cities local groups) that certify therapy dogs. Therapy Dogs International (TDI) uses the AKC Canine Good Citizen test as a key component of its therapy dog assessment. [Credit-AKC's Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program - Therapy Dogs]

Delta Poodle Therapy Pictures

Our Delta Poodle received all of their obedience training, A.K.C.-Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog certification at the C.C.C.C. - Cincinnati Canine Companion Centers in Loveland, Ohio. Delta Poodles highly recommends C.C.C.C. - Cincinnati Canine Companion Centers, in Loveland, Ohio, for all of your dog training needs.

The Delta Standard Poodles of Cincinnati would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to these individuals along with their extended family of Standard Poodles. Without these individuals, their poodles and their endless sacrificing of personal time, we could not carry on with our therapy work to the many rest homes and hospitals in the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio area. Many hours have also been devoted to our local Libraries, while the children read books and stories to these poodles. Therapy work is very rewarding for everyone involved.
